Premier of Queensland Joh Bjelke-Petersen, a person known for his use of the courts as a weapon to attack his opponents, finds himself in a row with his Coalition partners over the choice of a new Chief Justice. Bjelke-Petersen is forced to compromise with the choice of Sir Walter Camppbell, but wins his way, much to the disgust of his Coalition partner, Liberals Leader Dr Llew Edwards, over the appointment of Senior Puisne Judge D.
